Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe for a Uganda Birding Tour

Subject to time of arrival, you will be met by your private guide for the 12 days Birding in Uganda Tour who will immediately take you on a birding tour of Entebbe botanical Gardens or Uganda Wildlife Education Centre before you retire at your lodge/ hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2: Birding Tour to Kibale Forest National Park

Have a relaxed breakfast and drive to Kibale Forest National Park in Western Uganda as you bird enroute. The road to the park is amazingly scenic as you will pass through tea plantations and the lavish green in countryside which characterizes so much of Uganda. Before heading into the forest, you will have time for an afternoon stroll in the nearby town of Fort Portal.

The Birding in Uganda tour will mostly explore the forests. While at the forest you will enter an absolutely different world, away from the one before. It a home of different bird species and habituated chimpanzees. Kibale Forest occupies undulating terrain on the main Uganda Plateau slightly tilted to the south and is drained by the Dura and Mpanga rivers that flow in a southerly direction into Lake George. Lookout for birds like the African Crowned Eagle, Heuglin’s Francolin, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Chocolatebacked Kingfisher, Dwarf Kingfisher, White-thighed Hornbill, a Selection of Tinkerbirds and Barbets, Yellow-crested Woodpecker, Brown-eared Woodpecker, Greenbuls, Fire-crested Alethe, Red-tailed Antthrush, Lemon-bellied Crombec, Rufus-crowned Eremomela, Whistling Cisticola, Black-throated Apalis, Black-capped Apalis, Grey-throated Flycatcher and Forest Flycatchers

Day 3: Primate Tour of Kibale Forest

Other than birding in Uganda, you'll get to adventure with other wildlife. Now, early breakfast, then set out into the forest in search of Chimpanzee. These apes are the most intellectual in the animal kingdom, perhaps brighter human beings. In a bid to search for chimps, you will come across other primates including olive baboon, Guereza Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, L’Hoest’s Monkey, Galagos, Potto, Bush Babies, Red-tailed Monkeys, black and white colobus monkey and the blue monkey.

Lunch break then head to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary in search of the great Blue Turaco among others.

Day 4: Birding in Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast, with your lunch, set off into the forest for a full day birding in Uganda. Look out for birds re known for Kibale among which are; the African Emerald Cuckoo, African Green-pigeon, Black-crowned Tchagra, African Wood Owl, African Dusky Flycatcher, Black-headed Weaver, Black-necked Weaver, Black-throated Apalis, Blue-shouldered Robin-chat, Blue-throated Brown Sunbird, Blue-throated Roller, Abyssinian Hill-Babbler, Alpine Swift, Ashy Flycatcher, Barn Swallow, Brown Illadopsis, Brown-capped Weaver, Brown-chested Alethe, Black-headed Oriole.

Other birds that can be spotted include; the African Blue Flycatcher, Bocage’ Bush-shrike, Bronze Mannikin, Zebra Waxbill, Bronze Sunbird, Black Bee-eater, Black Cuckoo, Black Cuckoo-shrike, Black-and-white Casqued Hornbill, Black-and-white Mannikin, Black-and-white Shrike-flycatcher, Black-billed Turaco, Black-billed Weaver, Black-faced Rufous Warbler to mention but afew.

Day 5: Sebitoli and Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary Birding

Morning birding of Sebitoli in search of the Joyfull Greenbul and on to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for the Papyrus Canary, Papyrus Gonolek and Great Blue Turaco among other water birds.

Day 6: Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park Birding Tour

Late breakfast, then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. About 612 different bird species have been recorded so far making this park the most revered for birders in and around Uganda. Bird enroute to your accommodation where you will reach in time for check in and lunch.

After lunch, take on an afternoon launch (Boat) cruise on Kazinga Channel, which joins lakes Edward, and George. This channel is revered by many bird enthusiasts as it is considered many a time as the highlight of their birding tour in Uganda. Look out for Fish Eagles, Pallid Harrier, the Great Snipe, Gull Billed Tern, Lesser Kestrel and the rare shoebill stork. The cruise will also enable you spot other animals like Hippos, comical warthogs, monitor lizards, and with luck crocodiles.

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi Forest Birding Tour

Early rise and then take on a morning birding in Uganda tour through Kikorongo and Kasenyi tracks. Birds to look out for include the lesser flamingo, the African skimmer, Great White Pelican, Pallid Harrier, Black winged Pratincole, the Martial Eagle and weavers. This drive will also enable you spot some other early risers such as Elephants, Buffalo, Antelopes, Kobs and with luck leopards. Lunch break then transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to a number of bird species but more so re known for its Mountain Gorillas.

Overnight: Buhoma Lodge or Buhoma Community Bandas

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

The activity is so unique and memorable. You will be required to walk through the forest in search of the rare Mountain Gorillas, passing through muddy and steeply environments within the park before you meet any gorilla. A number of birds could be spotted enroute before you retire back to your lodge for overnight stay

Day 9: Birding in Ruhija Bwindi Forest

This day will be spent in Ruhijja side of Bwindi Forest searching for a number of birds such as the Mountain masked and Rwenzori Apalises, Handsome Francolin, African Green Broadbill, Dusky Crimson wings, Strange Weaver, Dusky Crimson-wings, Striped-breasted Tit, Rwenzori Batis, White-browed Crombec, White-napped Raven, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Sharp’s Starling among others.

Overnight: Ruhija Gorilla Lodge or Trekkers Tavern

Day 10: Mubwindi Birding Tour

Breakfast then spend the day birding in and around the Mubwindi Swamp. Look out for the Red-headed Malimbe, Grey-headed Sparrow, Waller’s Starling, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, White-tailed blue flycatcher, Brown-capped warbler, Black-billed weaver, Black-necked weaver, Bocage’s Bush-shrike, Brown-crowned Tchagra, Pink-footed Puffback, Ludher’s Bush-shrike, Doherty`s Bush-shrike, Mountain Illadopsis, Rwenzori Nightjar, Stuhlmann’s starling, Montane Oriole among others.

Overnight: Ruhija Gorilla Lodge or Trekkers Tavern

Day 11: Drive from Bwindi to Entebbe Birding

After breakfast, start the drive back to Entebbe with a stop over in Mbarara for lunch, at the Equator for some photo shots and any places of birding enroute. Proceed to Entebbe for overnight stay

Day 12: Entebbe Birding and Transfer to Airport

Subject to flight time, you could also bird around Entebbe before transferring to the Airport for your onward flight.
