Things To Do At The Murchison Falls National Park

The Murchison Falls National Park (MFNP) is in the Murchison Falls Conservation Area. The Murchison Falls Conservation Area happens to be among the oldest and largest protected area in Uganda. The Murchison Falls Conservation Area is made up of Murchison Falls National Park, Bugungu Wildlife Refuge and Karuma Wildlife Refuge. But in this article, we would be talking about the Murchison Falls National Park.

The Murchison Falls National Park is among the national parks that are controlled by the Ugandan Wildlife Authority. Also, it is called Kabalega Falls National Park or Kabarega National Park. This national park happened to be among Uganda’s first national parks and got established in 1952.

This national park as of the mid-1960s had become the leading safari destination in the entire East-Africa and had over 60,000 visitors that year. This national park is in the north-western part of Uganda and encompasses an area of 1,483 square miles (3,840 square km). The national park shares boundaries with Lake Albert, Victoria Nile, and the Karuma falls.

Things to do at the park

  • Visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is home to Rhinos in Uganda and also the home of Baby Obama which happens to be the first baby Rhino born in Uganda in 27 years. Also, white Rhinos are being bred here in the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Tourists can get to see and take pictures of the Rhinos.

The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary allows people across the world to watch how these beautiful creatures live in their habitat. An excursion in the sanctuary can last for up to 1-2 hours, and tourists can get to see the Rhinos from a safe point.

  • Visit the Lake Albert

Another place around the Murchison park that is worth visiting is the Lake Albert. The lake gives tourists a perfect feeling of nature. People who love birds would also enjoy this area as there are a lot of birds around Lake Albert. Apart from the wildlife around the lake, tourists can also see a lot of birds, especially the Shoebill. An excursion around the lake Albert can last up to 5 hours, and there is no dull moment.

  • Walk the Rabongo Forest

The Rabongo Forest is another exciting place to visit when in the Murchison park. Although a lot of tourists claim that walking this forest is mainly for bird lovers, there are different types of monkeys to see while exploring the forest. Tourists who would love to explore this forest would have to make arrangements with a ranger that would guide the walking process. Also, tourists who would enjoy a short hike would definitely try this place.

  • Go fishing

Tourists with a fishing permit can go fishing around the river shore, below the Falls, and cal also makes arrangements for boats to go fishing. It is always an exciting experience.

 

In the Murchison Falls National Park, there are different types of animals tourists can see. Seventy-two mammals precisely, over 450 species of Bird, and other animals. The tourist is a perfect combination of nature and fun, and every single moment spent here is worth it.
